Configuring Mac OS X 10.3 Apple Mail

This guideline is intended for first-time users to set up a mail account in Apple Mail on Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther").


1. Navigate to the "Mail" menu and select "Preferences."


2. A page for account configuration settings will appear. Please fill in the required fields as indicated under the "Account Information" tab.


Description: Self-referential account description

Email Address: Your email address (e.g., user@domain.name)

Full Name: The name of the sender as it will appear to recipients

Incoming Mail Server: (e.g., mail.domain.name)

Username: Your email address (e.g., user@domain.name)

Password: Your email login password


Next, click on the dropdown menu under the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" section and select "Edit SMTP Server List."

 

3. A new window will prompt you to select the email account you have created and enter the information as specified.

Under the "Account Information" tab:

Description: Self-referential account description
Server Name: (e.g., mail.domain.name)


Complete the fields and proceed to the "Advanced" tab.

Select "Use custom port" and enter the value "587," then uncheck the "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" checkbox. The remaining fields should be filled out as follows:

Authentication: "Password"
Username: Your email address (e.g., user@domain.name)
Password: Your email login password

4. Click "OK" to finalize the configuration.
