Upgrade Guide to Plesk Obsidian

An in-place upgrade is a process that occurs within a single server environment, allowing for the seamless transition from an older version of software to a newer one without the need for reinstallation or extensive system changes. To successfully carry out an in-place upgrade, certain prerequisites must be met:

  • The operating system must be supported both by its vendor and by Plesk. This ensures compatibility and continued support throughout the upgrade process.

  • The currently installed version of Plesk must be eligible for an upgrade to Plesk Obsidian. This eligibility is crucial for a successful upgrade. The versions that are supported for this upgrade include:

    • Plesk Onyx 17.0
    • Plesk Onyx 17.5
    • Plesk Onyx 17.8
  • If all requirements are satisfied and confirmed, you can proceed with the upgrade using the method outlined in this article. This article provides a detailed guide to ensure that the upgrade process goes smoothly. If, however, an earlier version of Plesk is installed, you have two options: you can either upgrade to Plesk Onyx first, or alternatively, you can perform an upgrade by transfer, which involves migrating to a new server environment.
