Inode Usage

What is an Inode

An inode is a data structure that contains all pertinent information regarding the files within your hosting account, encompassing emails, files, folders, and any content you upload, create, or store on the server.

The total number of inodes indicates the quantity of files and folders you possess. For example, shared and reseller servers allow a maximum of 150,000 files per cPanel account. This figure is referred to as the "Soft Limit," which means you can continue to upload files even after reaching this threshold.

Currently, the limit for a hosting account is established at 250,000. Exceeding this limit constitutes a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in potential suspension; however, users of shared hosting accounts typically operate well below this limit and need not be overly concerned.

VPS accounts have a maximum inode limit of 1,000,000. In practical terms, you will be unable to upload files to your account once this limit is reached. Conversely, dedicated servers do not impose any inode restrictions; the total inode usage is dictated by the server's file system.

How can I minimize my Inode usage

To reduce your inode count, simply delete any files or emails that are no longer necessary. Alternatively, you may download the emails to your local device.

How can I check my Inode usage

You can check your inode usage through your cPanel by following these steps:

1) Log in to cPanel using the URL http://domainname.com/cpanel

2) Navigate to Home --> STATISTICS --> File Usage

3) You will then be able to view your total inode usage.

Alternatively, you may contact our support team to inquire about your inode usage.

Lastly, violations of the Terms of Service related to inodes include (but are not limited to) the repeated creation and deletion of a substantial number of files (i.e., 10,000+) without prior approval.
